This first piece is a fish made of silver, precious and semi-precious stones, and wood. There are marine themed silver figures on the fish.
I would love to have one of these! Hmm, no price tag, that probably means we can't afford it. These were 3 silver vases, butterflies and animals.
Well, probably a bit breezy for my liking....
Front of the church with the intricate scuptures.
Bright, beautiful tiles on the dome.
The amount of work it must have taken to carve all these details, I can't imagine!
This is real gold paint they used to decorate the carvings. Awesome!
There were huge murals on every wall in one section of the church, probably 50 paintings total.
This is just an example of the mountainous terrain, and the hilly, winding cobble stone streets of Taxco. What a good work out!
The town runs up the side of a mountain, so all streets north and south are very steep. And some roads are so narrow that only one car can fit at a time, so someone has to back up to let the other pass! Yeah, Ron’s truck wouldn’t make it in this town.
…So we walked. It was fun. Bring comfy shoes. Lots to buy, everything from super-cheap to super-expensive. The streets are lined with silver shops, and every one sells silver.
We were told that there are over 1100 silver shops in Taxco, and I am not sure how accurate that is, but there are definitely hundreds and hundreds! Some are little stands and some are huge high-rent places. They also sell pottery, baskets, clothing and textiles and all kinds of hand-made items. Along with the dollar store stuff. We had a great time and Race was so good all day! Waving at all the people, and smiling at all the girls! And they all smiled right back.
